Simply Believe

I love the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Singing...dancing…marching bands...floats ...balloons...kids of all ages...clowns on bicycles...excitement. It’s a slice of Americana . Macy’s is often in the center of all we celebrate this time of year. While watching the parade this year, I noticed that on their building—in back of the performing area—was a large sign that simply had one word on it: BELIEVE.

Earlier in December, I was walking with Beth through Macy’s at Easton and noticed the large red bags with the word “BELIEVE” on them. It was on all the decorations. It was the theme of all I saw around me. That’s when it dawned on me—Macy’s had chosen one word to be the theme of their “holiday” season. They spent millions of dollars to promote this theme. My guess is that, for Macy’s, in a time of great uncertainty, they are trying to instill confidence in people so they will ultimately buy more. They have chosen just one word to tell their story. It wasn’t “Discount” or “Value” or even “Love”—it was “BELIEVE”. I think that, in that one word, they are telling our story. Is Jesus real? How do I know? What difference does it make? How or why would He ever help me? Can my life be different? Will it all be okay? There really is only one answer to these questions—and Macy’s is telling the world, “BELIEVE.” It really is a simple message…"For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him." John 3:16-17 All we have to do is believe. It is that simple. Just BELIEVE.
